Discrimination In College Admissions
Can race play a role in admissions process?
"The Civil Rights Act ended segregation in schools nearly 50 years ago, but some students say that colleges and universities are barely integrated."- USA Today
The Princeton sociologist Thomas Espenshade wrote in his 2009 book, "No Longer Separate, Not Yet Equal: Race and Class in Elite College Admission and Campus Life,'' that “to receive equal consideration by elite colleges, Asian Americans must outperform Whites by 140 points, Hispanics by 280 points, Blacks by 450 points in SAT (Total 1600)."
Problem: Till this day Discrimination has been going on in college campuses which result in lack of diversity on campus. School admissions have had a huge impact on the diversity especially in Ivy League Schools.
Solutions:
-A law needs to be passed to only base admissions on academics and what they have to offer
-School must have diverse clubs or classes for students to take
-Should have cultural events every month
